North by NW Fashion Competition Extends Deadline for Submissions

Fashion students, emerging designers, and talented individuals with a passion for fashion design have one more week to enter the North by Northwest Fashion Competition which is part of the upcoming Nordic Fashion Biennale that takes place in Seattle from September 30th through November 13th, 2011. The final deadline for all submissions is August 1, 2011.


Organizers of the competition also announced today the panel of judges who will select one of the two winners. The panel includes Yvan Mispelaere, creative director at Diane Von Furstenberg, Danish skin care guru Ole Henriksen and Icelandic fashion designer Steinunn Sigurðardóttir.

The second winner will be a “people’s choice” which will be selected by both online and in person voting.
“The hope of the North by Northwest competition is to provide unique, career-enhancing opportunities for emerging West Coast fashion designers to have their work seen in conjunction with cutting-edge, international designers such as Henrik Vibskov, Sandra Backlund, and Steinunn Sigurðardóttir,” said Ilmur Dögg Gísladóttir, organizer of the NFB.

All finalist entries will be displayed in Seattle in conjunction with the Nordic Fashion Biennale exhibition, and also posted online, giving people around the world the opportunity to vote on their favorite designer and help select the “People’s Choice” winner. The winners will be announced on November 15, 2011 on the NFB website.

The Nordic Fashion Biennale 2011—produced by the Nordic House, Reykjavik, and the Nordic Heritage Museum, Seattle—will feature the works of international designers from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden, with a special focus on the Western Nordic regions of Iceland, Greenland, and the Faroe Islands.

Mommy Caravan: Now on LIVING SOCIAL

One of my favorite memories from last spring was running around Greenlake in the sunshine with my other mommy friends as part of Beth Baker's 'Mommy Caravan' class. DELI celebrates 2-Year Anniversary

Seattle menswear boutique DELI celebrated their 2-year anniversary on May 30th and plans to celebrate with clients and fans on Friday, June 17th from 7-10pm. Premiere showing of the DVD that recaps Fashion Week Runway Trends for Fall/Winter 2011/2012 from FGI’s New York Fashion Insiders, followed by a panel of expert Seattle Fashion Professionals on what trends will make it to the streets and why. Bill Cunningam New York Heads to Seattle

If you've ever leafed through the Sunday style section of the NY Times you've inevitably seen the "On The Street" photos by Bill Cunningham. For decades Bill has been obsessively photographing and chronicling fashion trends and high society charity soirées for the Times Style section in his columns “On the Street” and “Evening Hours.” Documenting uptown fixtures, downtown eccentrics and everyone in between, Cunningham’s enormous body of work is more reliable than any catwalk as an expression of time, place and individual flair. In turn, Bill Cunningham New York is a delicate, funny and often poignant portrait of a dedicated artist whose only wealth is his own humanity and unassuming grace. ICDW presents: Product Runway

The Interior Design Coalition of Washington (IDCW) presents PRODUCT RUNWAY! Following two sold-out trips down the runway, the competition returns on June 3rd as interior designers and architects flaunt their creativity and technical skills by producing couture fashion constructed out of interior finish materials. Lift a glass and marvel at garments of carpet or ceramic tile that look like anything but!
